art education

Announcing: ART for a START, NY

Aft for a StartWith school budgets being drastically cut, some schools, especially those lacking in funds, may choose to exclude art classes from their curriculum. However, the students at these schools may be missing out on some important benefits of an education in the various art related fields. Whether it’s painting, Theater, sculpture, music or dance, the arts provide students with an excellent opportunity to increase their academic success and develop important skills. All classes will be conducted under the supervision of Deborah Wasserman. For more information about the program, our philosophy, and classes, visit ART FOR A START, NY.

Deborah Wasserman is the Founder, Director, and Instructor at a new inquiry-based independent arts program in Jackson Heights, Queens.

"I loved working with Deborah this year.  I love teaching in an interdisciplinary style and Deborah was a perfect fit.  I always try to incorporate music and art in my classes.  Her creativity, ideas and projects were an excellent complement to my teaching style and the children’s learning.  As Deborah and I worked with the children on peace poems, I was able to interject and teach my poetry unit with the children.  Now, as I am teaching y geometry unit, Deborah is working with the children to create geometric relief designs.  It has been just great!"
-- Maureen Wolf, 4th Grade teacher, P.S. 88

"This art class really changed my opinion of abstract art.  I used to associate abstract art with strange paintings and sculptures that don't really look like anything and don't really look too difficult to create.  Now, I find a lot of abstract art particularly interesting.  I think that abstract art can reveal a lot about a person and therefore, be very interesting to look at."
